Excel Add-in

Is Mac OS Excel supported?
Mac OS Excel is not currently supported. However, Excel Online works on Mac and gives you full access to all tech+bash features — the Reconciler, Aggregate by Colour, and all custom functions. Follow the Excel Online install guide to get started.
How many numbers can I reconcile at once?
The Reconciler works with up to 20 numbers per run. Most users find they already understand the bulk of their transactions and just need to pinpoint a smaller subset — so 20 is generous for the typical use case. If you regularly need to reconcile larger datasets, get in touch to discuss our bespoke data services.
Which version of Excel do I need?
The Add-in requires a Microsoft 365 subscription. It runs on Excel for Windows (Desktop) and Excel Online (any browser, Mac or Windows). It is not compatible with Excel 2019 or earlier standalone versions, or with Excel for Mac.
Can I use it on multiple devices?
Yes. Your subscription is tied to your Microsoft account email address, not to a specific device. You can use the Add-in on any device where you're signed into that Microsoft account — desktop, laptop, or browser.
Which features are free and which require a subscription?
Most features are free — Aggregate by Colour and all custom functions (TB.GROSSUP, TB.GROSSDOWN, TB.STATICRANDBETWEEN) are available to anyone who installs the Add-in at no cost. The Reconciler is the only premium feature and requires a paid subscription. See the Pricing page for full details.
Do the custom functions work in shared workbooks?
Custom functions (TB.GROSSUP, TB.GROSSDOWN, TB.STATICRANDBETWEEN) are available to anyone who opens the workbook and has the tech+bash Add-in installed. If a colleague opens the file without the Add-in, those cells will show a #VALUE! error until they install it. Standard Excel functions are unaffected.

Training

What training formats do you offer?
We offer three formats: free self-serve video content on our YouTube channel, live workshops for teams and firms (half-day or full-day), and one-to-one coaching for individuals who want sessions tailored to their specific workflows. See the Training page for more detail.
Who is the training designed for?
All of our training is built for accountants and finance professionals — not general audiences. Examples use accounting data, the problems are drawn from real practice workflows, and we don't waste time on things that aren't relevant to the job. It's suitable for everyone from part-qualified students to senior accountants looking to add technical skills.
Do you offer training for whole teams or firms?
Yes. Group workshops are available for accounting firms and finance teams — we'll tailor the content to your team's tools, skill level, and the specific workflows you want to improve. Get in touch with your team size and what you're working with and we'll put a plan together.
What topics does the training cover?
We cover Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, and the tech+bash custom functions), Python (data processing with pandas, automating repetitive tasks, working with CSV and Excel files), and AI (prompting effectively for accounting tasks, using ChatGPT, Claude, and Copilot, and understanding their limits). Content is always added from an accountant's perspective.

Data Services

What kind of data problems do you work on?
We work on problems where accounting knowledge is half the job — large-scale transaction reconciliation, automated reporting pipelines, data extraction from PDFs and legacy exports, and bespoke tooling built around specific workflows. If you're not sure whether your problem fits, just describe it to us and we'll give you an honest answer.
How does an engagement work?
It starts with a free conversation — no RFP, no lengthy onboarding. You describe the data, the scale, and what you need the output to look like. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help and what it would involve. If we proceed, we agree a scope and deliver against it. Email us to start that conversation.
Do you sign NDAs or data processing agreements?
Yes. For any engagement involving client data we put a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) in place before work begins. We're happy to sign NDAs where required. Data security and confidentiality are non-negotiable for us — we work with accounting data and we understand what's at stake.
Can you handle data that's currently in spreadsheets or PDFs?
Yes — this is a common starting point. We regularly extract, clean, and transform data from Excel workbooks, CSV exports, PDF statements, and legacy system dumps into a shape that's useful for your accounting workflow. See the Services page for the full list of what we do.

Billing & Account

Are there group pricing deals for firms?
Yes. We offer enterprise pricing for accounting firms and finance teams. Pricing depends on headcount and billing preference. Get in touch to discuss a plan that works for your firm.
I signed up with the wrong email address. Can you fix it?
Yes. The email on your subscription must match the Microsoft account you use to sign into Excel. Contact us with your subscription email and the correct Microsoft account email and we'll update it.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep access until then. We don't offer refunds for unused time within a billing period unless required by law. See our Terms of Service for full details.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payments are processed by Stripe and we accept all major credit and debit cards. For team or enterprise subscriptions, alternative billing arrangements may be available — contact us to discuss.
